Pagmamahal sa Bayan (Patriotism)

World War II, is a war that Germany started. “There is no win in war” Both sides losses where a lot of people died, suffered pain physically and emotionally. Philippines is one of the countries that has affected the war. “Araw ng Kagitingan” is an occasion to honor not only the Filipino war veterans who died or served the country but also to remember those who rendered honorable military service in defending the country in times of war or peace. This is to gratefully acknowledge their contributions in preserving our sovereignty and defending our national security.

On April 9, 1942, officials in command of Bataan where Filipino and American forces maintained the main resistance in the war against the Japanese –formally surrendered. Through the Voice of Freedom radio broadcast, Third Lieutenant Normando Ildefonso Reyes reading a message prepared by Captain Salvador P. Lopez informed the Philippines and the world from Malinta Tunnel in Corregidor: “Bataan has fallen.
” The “Fall of Bataan” was the most devastating moment for the Filipinos where the Japanese force attacked Bataan. Though many of the then soldiers were made Veterans of War and have received compensation as merit for their service, they should have not suffered death and injury during that time if only the Philippines did not become a battleground of the war. The compensation was not enough because it never brought back the lives of those who died. And one thing that Presidents Marcos and Duterte has keep on mentioning for payment from America was the devastation the war has brought to the Philippines. All that has been destroyed because of the war was never paid by the Americans whom our soldiers fought and died for.

Therefore, we, as Filipinos must commemorate in the celebration of the “Araw ng Kagitingan” for us to honor the sacrifices our men have rendered. Each of us has a battle of our own and we should be soldiers of our own selves. Thus, the bravery of Filipinos truly lived within each one of us. We should not be slaves to no one. We must be friends to everyone. Not an ally, not an enemy. Being neutral doesn’t make us coward. Courageous and bravery doesn’t make a country great, but protecting people’s lives matters. No war, just love.
