Life in Philippines During Pandemic

Covid-19 here, Covid there, Covid everywhere. Sigh! Isn’t it tiring? It’s been a year and counting since Covid-19 struck the world and bought many problems and challenges. Covid-19 pandemic started in later months 2019, spread early of 2020 and forced countries to restrict travel, forced to lockdown or quarantine people to at least control the widespread of the corona virus disease. School closed, businesses were forced to shut down, and the world’s economy went down. This Pandemic changed people’s lifestyle because of quarantine protocols, socializing physically is prohibited but if you want to, wear a face mask and have 1 meter distance from each other. Life during pandemic is hard, isn’t it? It gives as a lot of problems, Ishh! Mendokusai!

Let’s talk about the resiliency of the Philippines in response to the corona virus pandemic. The Philippines was one of those countries who first implemented lockdowns. At the early stage of the
pandemic, the Philippines seemed to flatten the curve. But because of the scarcity of most of the Filipinos, and no enough funds to support the community, the government was forced to loosen the quarantine protocols so that the economy can rise back. This move triggered a greater number of infected of the disease. I remember reading an article that the Philippines is the worst place to live in during the pandemic. It is but true because number one, the government can not provide support for the people not like other countries that their citizens even got stimulus even if they didn’t stop from working.

Resiliency of Filipino people. Yes, Filipinos are resilient during calamities. During this pandemic, resiliency of Filipinos are most regarded. But still, because most of the people in the Philippines are poor, people are dependent to the government during lockdowns.

Today, it’s like this pandemic has just started to rise because of the many infected cases being reported. We have been left behind the world. Instead of having this pandemic controlled because of the protocols that are being implemented, we are listed the worst place to live in. We are not moving forward. We are not healing. We are being stacked by this pandemic.

  1. I agree with what you've said. We Filipinos are generally resilient to disasters such as typhoons, but with the onset of the pandemic, our resilience has been put to the test. Our government was not prepared for this to happen, and as a result, many Filipinos are suffering. But I think that we Filipinos will find a way to overcome this pandemic if we are disciplined and united in our actions.
